Why Inject
A well-placed injection can do two things at once: provide therapeutic relief, and confirm the joint as the pain generator (a diagnostic injection). Image guidance - often ultrasound - improves accuracy substantially.
What We Use
- Corticosteroid - for inflammatory flares and arthritis
- Hyaluronic acid - for selected mild-to-moderate arthritis
- Local anesthetic alone - for diagnostic confirmation
Cadence
Repeat injections at the same joint should be spaced (typically no more than every 3–4 months) to avoid cartilage and soft-tissue thinning. Dr. O’Carroll uses injection as part of a broader plan - not as a substitute for definitive treatment.
