What’s Done
Arthroplasty (resection of the prominent joint) or arthrodesis (fusion of the bent joint), often combined with tendon balancing or - when an adjacent metatarsal is overloaded - a small metatarsal osteotomy. The goal is a straight, well-aligned toe that fits comfortably in a normal shoe.
What to Expect
Performed as an outpatient procedure. Most patients walk in a stiff postoperative shoe immediately after surgery. Pin or implant fixation maintains alignment for 4–6 weeks. Return to regular footwear typically at 6–8 weeks. Pain relief is high.
