What Custom Orthotics Are
Prescription orthotics are functional medical devices molded to your foot and prescribed for a specific clinical indication. They are not the same as the off-the-shelf insoles sold in pharmacies - though those have a role for mild support.
How They Work
By controlling abnormal motion and redistributing pressure, orthotics reduce mechanical stress on injured tissue, support compromised structures, and offload painful areas.
What to Expect
Dr. O’Carroll examines your foot, watches you walk, and casts or scans your foot in a corrected position. The lab fabricates the device to that prescription. Most patients adapt within 1–2 weeks. Custom orthotics typically last 3–5 years with daily use.
