Toenail Surgery

A simple, definitive in-office procedure for recurrent ingrown toenails. Done correctly, recurrence rates are very low.

What the Procedure Is

A partial nail avulsion with chemical matrixectomy - the offending corner of the nail is removed, and the underlying nail matrix is treated so that the corner does not regrow. The nail itself remains; only a narrow border is permanently removed.

What to Expect

The procedure is done in the office under local anesthesia and takes 15–20 minutes. Most patients return to normal shoes within a few days. Pain is minimal. Bandage changes are simple. Recurrence rates with proper matrixectomy are under 5%.
