Soft Tissue Tumor Excision

Marginal and wide excision of benign and selected malignant soft-tissue tumors of the foot and ankle, with attention to function and cosmesis.

Planning the Procedure

Pre-operative imaging (ultrasound, MRI) and - for any imaging-equivocal lesion - biopsy guide the excision plan. The goals are complete removal of the lesion, preservation of function, and minimization of scar burden in weight-bearing areas.

What to Expect

Most benign lesions are excised through a single targeted incision under local or regional anesthesia. Recovery depends on location and depth - typically a postoperative shoe or boot for 1–4 weeks. For lesions that prove malignant on pathology, Dr. O’Carroll coordinates with musculoskeletal oncology for definitive management.
