What to Bring to Your First Appointment

A short checklist that makes your first visit faster, better, and more useful.

A few simple things to bring to your first appointment will help us spend the time on your problem rather than on paperwork.

Documents

  • Photo ID
  • Insurance card
  • Referral if your insurance requires one
  • A list of your current medications
  • Any prior imaging (X-ray, MRI, ultrasound) - bring the disc, not just the report
  • Records or notes from prior podiatric or orthopedic care

Shoes

Bring the shoes you wear most often - the ones you walk in every day. Shoes tell me a lot. Wear patterns reveal gait. Insole compression reveals pressure points.

A Written Symptom Story

A short note describing:

  • When the symptoms started
  • What makes them better or worse
  • What treatments you have tried
  • How they are affecting your daily life

This is more useful than you think - patients often forget important details once we’re in the exam room.

Comfortable Clothing

Loose-fitting pants or shorts that allow easy access to the foot, ankle, and lower leg.

A Question or Two

If you have a specific question you want answered - write it down. Patients often leave my office wishing they had asked the one thing they meant to.

Get back on your feet!

Schedule a consultation with Dr. O'Carroll at our Pismo Beach or Santa Maria office. Dr. O'Carroll's schedule fills quickly - we recommend requesting an appointment as early as you can to get on the list.
